Are you unhappy with your smile? Would you love to have the kind of teeth that anyone would be proud to show off? What’s stopping you from getting a smile makeover to transform your smile?
For many people, uncertainty is the biggest barrier. They simply don’t know what to expect when undergoing such a form of treatment. You can rest assured that before you get a smile makeover at Firouzian Dentistry, Dr. Mike Firouzian will explain the entire process in detail. If, however, you’re not yet ready to schedule a consultation, this article will help you understand what to expect from your smile makeover.
What Results You Can Expect from Your Smile Makeover
In simple terms, expect a beautiful smile from your smile makeover. It really is that straightforward. However, getting there might be a little more complicated.
Depending on the current condition of your smile, you might be looking to:
- Brighten discolored teeth
- Repair chipped or cracked teeth
- Lengthen small or worn teeth
- Close gaps between teeth
- Straighten crooked teeth
- Relieve tooth crowding
- Replace one or more missing teeth
Fortunately, with a smile makeover, you can have all of these issues taken care of at the same time. During your consultation with Dr. Mike, you will talk about the aspects of your smile that you want to improve. He will ask you what type of results you’re looking for and design a custom combination of procedures to help you achieve them.
Other Benefits You Might Receive from Your Smile Makeover
Dr. Mike will work with you to craft a smile that is guaranteed to be radiant. Many of our patients, however, experience benefits that extend beyond aesthethic appearance. These effects, while not guaranteed, are quite common.
Most people experience increased self-confidence after their smile makeover. They feel more comfortable smiling in public, and they feel better about the person they see in the mirror when they smile.
Many people find it easier to meet new people and develop long-term personal relationships after their smile makeover. Of course, a major factor in this is their improved confidence. However, surveys show the importance of a smile alone in choosing a romantic partner. This is about more than just first impressions–a smile’s appearance is one of the biggest factors people consider when thinking about going on a second date.
In addition, many people find it easier to get a new job or promotion after their smile makeover. Again, improved confidence likely plays a big role here. However, having a more attractive smile can also make you look more intelligent and competent, and hiring managers confess that this is a big influence on their decisions.

What Treatments You Can Expect During Your Smile Makeover
A smile makeover is a custom procedure, so the specific procedures used will depend on what results you’re looking for. Here are some of the most common procedures used in smile makeovers and what they can do for you.
Teeth Whitening
Used for: Discolored Teeth
This chemical treatment breaks down stains in your teeth to help them look brighter.
Dental Bonding
Used for: Small Teeth, Chipped Teeth, Smile Gaps
Dental bonding is a composite material that we can use to repair or enlarge your teeth. This can lengthen short teeth, repair chipped teeth or close a gap in your smile by enlarging the teeth on either side of the gap.
Dental Veneers
Used for: Small Teeth, Chipped Teeth, Smile Gaps, Crooked Teeth, Discolored Teeth
Dental veneers, including Lumineers, are a powerful cosmetic dentistry procedure. Sometimes, we can achieve a smile makeover using just veneers.
Dental Crowns
Used for: Small Teeth, Chipped Teeth, Cracked Teeth, Smile Gaps, Crooked Teeth, Discolored Teeth
Dental crowns can do everything veneers can do, as well as provide protection and structural support for damaged teeth.
Orthodontics
Used for: Crooked Teeth, Crowded Teeth, Smile Gaps
Orthodontics moves your teeth to give you a straight, even smile. At Firouzian Dentistry, we offer many types of orthodontics, including Invisalign, Six Month Smiles, and traditional braces.
Dental Bridges
Used for: Missing Teeth
A dental bridge is a traditional way of providing you with a fully functional replacement tooth and works by supporting the replacement tooth with natural teeth on either side. It’s also the term we use to describe a fixed restoration replacing more than one tooth and supported by dental implants.
Dental Implants
Used for: Missing Teeth
Dental implants are the tooth replacement option that is most like your natural teeth. Whether you’re replacing one tooth or an entire arch of teeth, dental implants can give you replacement teeth that look and function just like natural teeth.
Can You Expect a Smile Makeover to Hurt?
No. In general, a smile makeover will cause little discomfort. However, the exact amount of discomfort you will experience depends on the type of procedures included in your smile makeover as well as your personal susceptibility to discomfort.
During your procedure, Dr. Mike will use anesthesia to ensure you don’t experience discomfort. As you recover, you might experience some minor soreness for up to a few days after your treatment. If you know you are highly susceptible to this type of discomfort, Dr. Mike can prescribe pain medication.
How Long You Can Expect Your Smile Makeover to Take
The length of your smile makeover depends on the procedures you choose.
We can complete some procedures, like teeth whitening and dental bonding, in just one visit. Many prosthodontic procedures, like veneers and crowns, can be completed in less than a month.
Other procedures take longer. Dental implants can take a month or up to a year depending on your oral health. Orthodontics typically takes the longest: about six months for Six Month Smiles or a year or more for Invisalign, traditional braces, and other orthodontic treatments.
How Much You can Expect Your Smile Makeover to Cost
Because a smile makeover is a custom procedure, we can’t tell you how much your smile makeover will cost until we know what procedures you will need.
However, you can count on getting an accurate estimate for your smile makeover before you commit to the procedure.
How You Can Expect to Care for Your Smile Makeover
Typically, you will care for your smile makeover the way you care for your natural teeth: brush, floss, and make regular dental checkups.
We might recommend changes if your smile makeover is repairing damaged teeth. One common recommendation is that you wear a nightguard to protect your restorations if you sometimes grind your teeth at night.
How Long You Can Expect Smile Makeover Results to Last
Smile makeover results can be long-lasting. Just how long they last depends on the individual treatment.
- Teeth whitening offers the shortest results: you may notice new discoloration in a few weeks if you consume staining foods and beverages. However, it’s easy to renew and maintain teeth whitening results.
- Dental bonding may last only a few years.
- Dental veneers, crowns, and bridges will likely last 10-15 years, and some can last much longer when properly cared for.
- Orthodontics results you can maintain as long as you wear a retainer as directed.
- Dental implants can also last a lifetime with proper care. However, restorations on the implants might last only 10-15 years. However, some high-quality restorations can last 30 years or more.
