Fit Isn’t Precise
When a dentist is taking impressions with standard impression material, there are a lot of mechanical reasons why the impression might not be precise. When you add to that the possibility that the crown might not be made precisely from the impressions, it happens that you might get a dental crown that doesn’t fit the way it’s supposed to. When this happens with a lab-made crown, the normal response is to try to grind down your tooth to match the crown. If this doesn’t work, you might have to get a new impression made and a replacement crown, which could take another two weeks.
With CEREC crowns, in the rare case there’s a problem with the fit, the crown itself is recently milled and can be more easily worked. And if we can’t get it to fit properly, we can always make another one while you wait.
Color Isn’t Right
Another problem that sometimes comes up is that the crown doesn’t really match the color of your other teeth. It can sometimes be hard to communicate an exact shade to the lab and they might not achieve the shade we ordered anyway. We can tweak the color for a lab crown a little bit, but it’s often not enough, and you just have to wait two weeks for the lab to take another crack at it.
CEREC crowns, on the other hand, can have their color tweaked significantly, and it’s often possible to get a better color match this way than with a lab-made crown. And even if we can’t quite get it right to your satisfaction, we can always remake the crown in our lab, today.
Fell Down and Broke Your Crown?
Another benefit of CEREC crowns is how easy it is to make a replacement. CEREC crowns are highly durable, but they can be damaged in an auto accident or because of facial trauma.
If this happens, though, there’s no worry. First, we’ll check to make sure the trauma didn’t damage your tooth underneath. If not, we can call up the pattern for your crown that is stored in the computer and create a new crown right away.
Life is full of surprises, and we can’t change that. However, CEREC lets us handle surprises better.
